Walking Is Much More Creative Than Sitting !
Here is what Friedrich Wilhelm Nictzsche wrote: "It is only ideas gained from walking that have any worth." And Charies Dickens said: "If I could not walk far and fast, I think I should just explode and die." Are you still sitting there reading this? Get walking! It is not just these two great minds believe it helps bring creativity. Researchers have found many connections between walking and having ideas. A Stanford University study finds that people are 81% more creative when walking than sitting. According to the study, walking outside is much better than on a treadmill. You may walk outside first and then sit down to do creative work.
It is believed walking is quite helpful. Our creative mindset is produced by body movement, which is exactly why walking --- with your dog, a friend, or alone --- feeds creative thinking. But the scenery is almost as important as the sweat. The National Human Activity Pattern Survey finds that Americans spend 87% of their time indoors. Being inside, you are more likely to sit and lie, producing little energy. Without energy, you can not wonder or create. Breaking up your routine with a walk can help you get fresh insights into problems and projects. Just by going outside, you are stepping out of your habitual surroundings and your comfort zone, which is necessary if you want to open your mind to new possibilities. Our brains work harder to process in different environments, so walking outside fosters out ability to have new ideas, to take in new sights, sounds, smells, and flavors.
So instead of setting a fitness goal, why not set a creativity goal that starts with walking?
